Speaker Bio: Robert Johnson, CFA
Robert Johnson is director of economic analysis for Morningstar. In this role, Mr. Johnson regularly meets with each of Morningstar's sector teams to gather up-to-the-minute economic data from more than 90 Morningstar debt and equity analysts. This information is disseminated to other sector teams and to Morningstar's subscribers via a weekly column and a weekly video. In addition, Mr. Johnson provides general economic data to individual analysts to help them formulate their opinions on debt and equity securities.
Before assuming his current role in 2008, Mr. Johnson was an associate director of stock analysis for the technology team for more than four years. In that role, Mr. Johnson emphasized developing strong collaboration among team members and provided a sharper focus on stock-picking. The increased role of consumers in technology spending and a greater emphasis on non-U.S. markets were two key themes developed by the technology team under Mr. Johnson's tenure.
Mr. Johnson has more than 30 years of investment experience, including both buy-side and sell-side assignments as a research analyst. His work experience includes stints at Stein Roe & Farnham, Rotan Mosle, and ABN AMRO and has involved extensive exposure to technology names.
Mr. Johnson holds a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard University and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and business administration from Carroll College. Johnson also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Society of Chicago.
